Employer COVID-19 Refund Scheme & Supports Available

The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection are encouraging employers to retain employees where possible. To facilitate this the department is setting up a refund scheme for employers which will pay them the €203 per week for each worker who would otherwise have been laid off because a business has to cease trading due to HSE advice on ‘social distancing’. This will mean that workers retain their link with employers and there is no need for them to personally submit a jobseeker's claim.

Revenue has worked closely with the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection in relation to this payment of €203 being made to employees.

Revenue has provided an option for employers to make this payment to their employees through the normal payroll process and amounts paid to employees will be refunded to the employer’s bank account, in general, on a ‘next day’ basis.

Details of the scheme are available on the Revenue website at www.revenue.ie/en/news/articles/employer-covid-19-refund-scheme.aspx.

DEASP has asked Revenue to highlight that employees without dependents are encouraged not to apply for Jobseeker’s benefits unless their employer is not in a position to operate this scheme. Also, those with adult or child dependents should claim the standard jobseeker payment by applying to the DEASP at www.welfare.ie.

Income supports are available from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection for your employees during a COVID-19 (Coronavirus) related absence or temporary lay-off from work:
